5th and Final Broad Street Run

My 5th and final Broad Street Run! I conquered, PR’d and endured til the end. It was a humbling race and I enjoyed every minute of it. So many things were deposited in my spirit as I ran. Confirmation of the promises and my purpose in life was solidified during this race. There was definitely some heavy weights that I needed to shake off and release. This past year, running although it is my frenemy has been my place of healing and therapy.

There has been 2 pivotal quotes that have been my driving force since 2015. “The prize is in the process.” And “In my hard, getting strong.” Many know that I attribute all my runs to my son, Daniel who has Cerebral Palsy and will never walk or run until he gets to heaven. I also run for the mission and ministry that the Lord has blessed me with and that is to bFIT4Life.  To help others to overcome the plight of obesity.  The ‘hard’ in my life has been raising a child with disabilities. The pain and stress has taken a toll on me physically which caused me to be overweight most of my adult life. I choose my ‘hard’ (running) and was determined to get strong. Running is hard for me but something I am growing to love because it it takes me back to my youth days.

I have had a Love hate relationship with Broad Street Run since 2014.   I injured my knee the month before race day with a torn meniscus and was determined to still run. I love the energy and the spirit of the city during this race and that is why I love to do this race.

TODAY
at Broad Street ….. I catch up with my Latina friends Maria and Katina at the start. Thankful for Maria getting me a free entry into this race because it was meant for me to run it.

Making my way to mile 1, I pasted Rockland Street. A Street that I once owned a house that I lost in 2010. Today symbolized that lost as a new gain. Three months from now I shall be a new homeowner in New Jersey and I shall not morn that lost again.

TODAY…iRan BSR with the intentions of PRing. Setting a personal record from my first run in 2011. My goal was to do it under 2 hrs but that was putting alot of pressure on me. Definitely wanted to do it in 2 hours or under 02:15.

I still have a lot of work to do in maintaining my pace. I started off at about a 11:30 pace and ended at a 13:00 pace. My first defeat was to get to the 5th mile under an hour and I did.

Go Lysa….. I was so glad to Reach City Hall which is Mile 6. This is the South side of Philadelphia. South Philly is where the spirit of the city and my Adrenaline picks up. At this point I was still feeling pretty strong and focused to get pass the 8th mile which is usually my wall. My body usually starts to break down at the 8th mile. I stopped a few times and wanted to use the potty but I kept on going. I so wanted to finish and didn’t want to slow down. I am chasing a PR and that clock at this point.

Mile 7.5……. Rain clouds approaching and here comes the rain. I started praying, “Oh Lord Broad Street you know I am not that kind of runner. I don’t do the rain.” Broad Street really wanted to humble me this race. I was determined with everything in me not to be walking across the finishline. I rain through a rain shower for 5 minutes. It was cold because it was already breezey out and the temps were about 62 degrees. Cold for me. I thank the one person that dropped s ziplock bag with some candies in it do that I could protect my phone. 🙂

Still making my way to mile 8 and beyond I was JonesING for some Gatorade. I could tell I was low on potassium and electrolytes at this point. My right calf was starting to cramp. OMG I cried! I wanted to stretch but was afraid to. I slowed it down. It was my slowest mile 15:21. Finally, the Gatorade stop and I guzzled like a warrior. I had a moment that the calf cramps stopped me dead on where I literally felt paralyzed and couldn’t move and take another step. I prayed again. Broad Street you will not beat me this year. I guess the salts kicked in.

PRESSING my way to the 9th mile, I started picking up speed. Back to a 13:00 minute mile pace and taking it slow and saying to myself BSR you will not beat me this final race. I am about to have a testimony. My motivational end of workout song came on,  Can you feel it by the Jackson 5’s . I was making my way into the shipyard and approaching the last photographers trying to look happy and victorious 🙂

With the finishline in view and only needing to go about a .10 of a mile to cross that finishline. The word of the Lord came to heart. “Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews‬ ‭12:1-2‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

I could hear the shouts, the cheers and the praises from on high above the Jackson 5.

I had to shout ‘to God be the Glory!’ It is Finished! I PR’d by 2 minutes. With a finish time of 2:13:13 from my 2:15 time in 2011. Thank you Jesus.

That’s right I Prüvit! Thanks to my KETONE supplement I had the energy needed to complete the 10 miles. I am closing the books on Broad Street now time to work on speed work and becoming a 5K fanatic !

My 5 Favorite Things

Tis is the season for my favorite things. There are many things that I can’t live without and the first  is my iPhone 7 Plus. Why? I love the size, it is my mini computer. It is my everything and how I run my business daily. 🙂

Second is my water.  I have a favorite water and it is Penta because of it’s refreshing taste.  This water is purified.  It gives  my body great hydration especially when I am detoxing and need to cleanse.  Most of the time I drink Essentia because it is an akaline water that helps to keep me ph balanced and a strong immune system. Did you know that a strong immune system will help ward off illness and disease?

Third are my Younique Products. This is what the center of this blog post will be about. My new Royalty skincare line is amazing.

I love the cleansers to the Divine moisturizer. I never used a moisturizer until I discovered Younique. Why? Because I have oily skin and once my face was washed I wanted it dry. I don’t like the feeling of oils or anything heavy on my skin.

The skincare has been a game changer for me and great for my skin. I have found my match and they are the base to me preserving my pretty. I love how the skincare is naturally based and rich in vitamins for my skin. We offer the Pore Purifiying Cleaser for oily skin and theMoisture  Boost Cleanser for normal to dry skin. I use both . On days after applying the mask, I use the moisture cleanser to add moisture back into my skin.

My newest crave is the Detoxifying Charcoal mask. Which has been a game changer in the the oil control of my skin. Using the detoxifying mask 3 times a week  has made my skin more on the normal side and I love it!  My makeup holds much better and I don’t get an oily shine as fast.

Besides our Liquid Touch Foundation because of the flawless finish,  I would say that our beachfront bronzer is a fave too! I love how it brightens up my face in all the right places. Our Malibu is my favorite out of the three we offer.

Lastly, I am such a fan of our Moonstruck 3D Fiber Lash + Mascara. This was the 1st product I purchased from Younique. I was looking for a mascara that would make my itty bitty lashes show up with some volume and boy did it delivered!  My lashes are very little thanks to PCOS. Two applications and my natural lashes can appear to look false. This mascara is hyper allergenic, doesn’t irritate my eyes or smudge my contacts. It is waterproof and can stand the heat. I tested the mascara in hot yoga.

Get ready because we will reboot with a relaunch of a reformulated version of this product on January 15th. Reformulated to give you the best lashes ever!

I Am The Perfect 10

The day had come where I particpated in The Perfect 10 miler. An all female race that took me 3 years to get to injury free!

I felt that I was mentally ready for this race because I’ve done a 10 miler a few times before but did’t think I was physically ready because I had not conditioned myself in my last long run while training for this race. I set out to dedicate each mile to a signicant other or special group of people. Overall I contribute all my runs in honor to my 25 year old son, Daniel, who has Cerebal Palsy and can not walk or run.
The dedication list.
I thought this was a great organized race with great scenery and course. The course was not completely flat. That 8th mile!
My 10 miles thoughts. I was overjoyed that my husband who I call ‘b’ took the day off from preaching at church to come cheer me on with my son at the finishline. Miles 4,5 and 7 represented personal training clients that I am currently training in there weightloss journey. Mile 4 was an emotional one as I thought of my friend who is going through alot of physical and emotional pain. For me it was a pressing point because up until now I had been only competing in 5K’s and here is where the rubber met the road. I had to push a little further.

October 23rd was the day of the Breast Cancer awareness walk and I thought of loved ones and friends who are currently battling or are survivors of cancer.
The 8th mile was a little sticking point for me. We know that the number 8 represets new beginnings. I thought about the new community of inviduals I would meet and get to work with globally as I launch my new bFIT4Lifers Tribe online training and coaching platform. I had to make a descion to close my studio location and shift into a new direction. This mile marker was bitter sweet!
No only was the 8th mile a sticking point but my body was beginning to sore up. My left hip flexor and PNF muscles where feeling it. J started off this race with my inner thights feeling sore from a Thursday trainibg session. I also was thinking anout my last Broad Street Run 10 miler where I got to the 8th mile and my right leg caught a crap in my hamstring and I had to walk to the finishline. Not today I thought. Looking at my Garmin, I was good on time and said I’d continue to gallaway my way there. If I’d keep this pace and not go too hard I can still PR and not crap up.
I tried my best to stay an 11 minute mile pace and stay with the race pacer pack but at this sticking point they blazed by me. It was me and the road looking for the finishline. At that point I took a minute to stretch and proceed on because I was shooting for that PR. My initial goal was to finish under 2hrs but that was me over pushing myself. I knew that I was going to PR and do better than my last BSR time of 2:42 . It puts me back close to my 1st BSR time of 2:16. I attribute the time difference from me stopping to strech and catch a few pics.
The victory is sweet! A new 10 miler PR and a Perfect 10 finisher. Such a happy camper. A finish time of 2:18:23. The Prize is in the Process!
Got to meet some new ladies from the great Black Girls Run community who I was representing. I found out that I was 1 out of 33 Lisa’s that ran this race and I was able to meet another Lisa.
CgiRacing did a great job and I plan on running again next year. My next stop is a 10k and the my 1st Half Marathon in November.
